 Normality in the state of emergency: Since the „revolution“ of 2006,
Hungary, the „happiest barack of the Eastern bloc“ is under surveillance by
Europe once again. Radical changes took place in politics, and thereby also
within the society in general. What is it like living in this country, and
does the effects of the recent changes reflect in the arts already? How
does the new generation of the Budapest art scene react?


„BLITZ VISIT“ is the first exhibition of Igor Metropol in Berlin. The
non-profit association was founded in 2011 in Budapest with the aim to
mediate between Hungary and abroad within the fields of fine arts and music.

“I know no weekend”. Socially Committed Art in Eastern Europe

Call for Art Students
Application Deadline: 31 January  2012

Joseph Beuys (1921 – 1986, Germany) is now considered as one of the most influential artists of the 21^st Century, though or because his work produced controversial debates about contemporary art and the socio-political commitment of artists in the 1970s and 1980s. Today his approach seems more relevant than ever. 

Young art students from Banja Luka, Brno, Kosice, Novi Sad, Pécs and Wroclaw are invited to deal with the validity of Beuys’ artistic approaches to today’s society, to develop new art works, interventions and performances that deal critically with Beuys’ ideas and/or that are influenced by them. They are encouraged to deal artistically with current social and political issues and their interrelation.

Altogether 6 students, one from each city, will be chosen and get the possibility to realize their project ideas and to get in touch with the local art scene in Pécs. The students will be awarded with a fee (300 Euro per person). Travel and accommodation costs will be covered by the organizers, as well as an allowance for production and material costs. 

 “I know no weekend” is supported by ERSTE Foundation, Goethe-Institut and Robert Bosch Stiftung.

Die Robert Bosch Stiftung vergibt im Studienjahr 2012/13
Lektoratsstipendien für Aufenthalte an Hochschulen in Osteuropa,
Zentralasien sowie China. Die Lektorinnen und Lektoren unterrichten
in deutscher Sprache und initiieren Projekte im Sinne der
Völkerverständigung. Gleichzeitig absolvieren sie den in Kooperation
mit der Universität Hildesheim entwickelten Ausbildungsgang

Das Programm richtet sich an Absolventen der Fächer Deutsch als

Hochschulabschluss darf nicht länger als 5 Jahre zurückliegen.
Interesse an der Region Osteuropa bzw. China wird vorausgesetzt.
Bewerber sollten die deutsche Sprache auf muttersprachlichem Niveau
beherrschen.

Die Bewerbung erfolgt ausschließlich auf elektronischem Weg.

Das Institut für Migrations- und Aussiedlerfragen Heimvolkshochschule
St. Hedwigs-Haus in Oerlinghausen bei Bielefeld sucht junge bildende
Künstler/innen aus Russland, Rumänien oder Spanien, die in
Deutschland leben, für eine Ausstellung im Rahmen der überregionalen
Kulturwoche "Europa Colorata" (EU-Projekt "Focus on culture) ab
28.05.2012. Es kann auch eine Künstlergruppe ausstellen.
Themenschwerpunkte der Arbeiten sollten sein: Migration, Europa,
Vielfalt, Ausgrenzung.

20 éves a Francia Intézet épülete Képzőművészeti pályázat

A Budapesti Francia Intézet a Fő utcai otthonának 20. évfordulóját ünneplő kiállítást 2012. áprilisában nyitja meg 'Dunai kilátások' címmel, amely az épület tervezését, építésének körülményeit, funkcióváltozásait, a városlakók és a szakma általi fogadtatását mutatja be.

A kiállítás szervezőiként az épület köszöntésében, illetve a róla szóló reflexióban művészeti nézőpontokat is érvényesíteni szeretnénk, ezért a kiállítási projekt részeként közösségi művészeti pályázatot írunk ki. A pályázatra olyan, az épület által inspirált, az épületben ill. az épület külső felületén megvalósuló ideiglenes művészeti beavatkozások tervét várjuk, amelyek az épülettel, annak fizikai tereivel, építészeti szellemiségével, kulturális feladatával vagy kultúrpolitikai jelentőségével, a budapesti kontextushoz való viszonyával, illetve más aspektusaival foglalkoznak.
A pályázat műfaja nyitott: bármilyen, a kortárs művészet eszköztárát használó munkával lehet jelentkezni, amely a Francia Intézet nyilvános, a közönség számára hozzáférhető, ill. látható tereiben valósul meg (pl. előtér, aula, kávézó, belső udvar, lépcsőház, médiatár, tető, homlokzat, járda, stb. – az Intézet kiállítóterme, a Salle Padrazzini kivételével). A nyertes, megvalósított pályamű kiállítási ideje minimum egy hónap (a kiállítás időtartama), de adott esetben meghosszabbítható.

Nach einer Einführung von Stadtbauwelt-Redakteurin Brigitte Schultz geben einige Autoren der Stadtbauwelt 190 Einblick in die Facetten der „virtuellen Stadt“. Lena Hatzelhoffer (Uni Bonn) stellt neueste Entwicklungen auf dem Feld der „ubiquitären Städte“ vor, in denen Computernetze die Funktionen der Stadt steuern sollen. Peter Zeile und Stefan Höffken (TU Kaiserslautern) sprechen über die Revolutionierung der Stadtkartierung. Spielentwickler Sebastian Quack (Invisible Playground, Berlin) berichtet von der Neuinterpretation des öffentlichen Raums durch transmediale Spiele. Diese können ab 20 Uhr am eigenen Leib getestet werden, wenn Invisi­ble Play­ground den Ernst-Reuter-Platz für die Bauwelt in „SpyLand“ verwandelt.

The London Design Festival through the eyes of a foreigner

 The London Design Festival which was held between 17th-25th September had many sites and sides.

First of all there were 5 design districts in London the two most important were West London with the V&A Museum functioning also as the main hub of the Festival  and 100% Design, which was a trade show. The other important area was the Shoreditch area in East London with the Design Triangle including galleries and shops and Tent London, which in a way is a much creative, younger and laid back counterpart of 100% Design, organized in a former brewery building in Brick Lane.

To discover the Festival  at the V&A Museum is a good starting point. The main entrance of the building has undergone a dramatic change with the installation of a 12m diameter timber wave cascading down the steps to mark the London Design Festival 2011. The Timber Wave is the continuation of the entrance symbolising the museum opening out to people. Inside the museum there were some 10 installations, one of the most important of which was the Bourullec Brothers Textile Field – an expansive, coloured foam and textile installation with gentle inclinations on which visitors could comfortable sit or lay down and immerse themselves in the stunning Raphael Gallery. The 30 metre long installation was supported by Kvadrat.

Also an important installation was from the renowned New-York based design gallerist and curator Murray Moss in collaboration with industry leader Materialise, Belgium to create a special exhibition  with the 21st century 3D ’printing’ technology. A series of unique ’printed’ works, using cutting edge laser and digital technologies to build 3 dimensional objects were placed throughout the Museum’s most important galleries.

But there were other interesting installations throughout the city. For example the LEGO Greenhouse, designed by Sebastian Bergne, a fully functioning greenhouse built entirely from Lego bricks with real plants and vegetables inside, showcased in Covent Garden North East Piazza.

In Saint Paul’s Cathedral as part of this year’s Festival leading architect John Pawson has designed an installation called Perspectives with Swarowski Crystal Palace creating a metal and crystal hemisphere at the base of the Geometric Staircase in the South West Tower. With a reflective curved mirror at the top of the tower, visitors looking down into the hemisphere could see a view as if from the top of the tower but greater than the natural eye could see.

As I said in the beginning the Festival had many sites and sides. In Clerkenwell in the Flos showroom  we could enjoy a range of different caffeine treats, including edible coffee grounds, nitrous aerated coffee brioche and deconstructed cappuccinos with Marcel Wanders, made in front of guests using liquid nitrogen chocolate powder.

Artist Flea Market for Nacht und Nebel

Artist Flea Market for Nacht und Nebel - Neukolln's arts festival on November 5 2011 from 19.00 -24.00

We are looking for people who would like to: hold a performance; a participatory workshop; sell art works; bake and sell cakes, food etc.; show something/curate something. . . The night should be fun and with lot's of visitor's. We will have a little screening area in the back room so if you have a film to screen please let us... know. We have a loose theme around colours. If you are interested, please email us your idea or phone us and we can talk it through Please get in contact as soon as possible so that we can allot spaces. We will ask a small donation to Centrum for those stalls selling items.

Last year we had over 400 visitors.
